Showdown Expected Over Honduran Leadership
The Organization of American States says the interim rulers in Honduras have three days to restore ousted President Manuel Zelaya to power or face possible suspension from the group.
That announcement came after the United Nations also spoke out against the new government.
Zelaya was removed from office June 28 by the Honduran military after he tried to rewrite the constitution so he could run for a second term as president.
The ousted leader says he won't resign and plans to return to Honduras later this week, but the interim President Roberto Micheletti warns he'd be arrested.
This sets the stage for a potential showdown in Honduras.
CBN News spoke with Miguel Alvarez, a native of Honduras and pastor in the Church of God.
Alvarez says there is widespread support for Micheletti and his new government.
"People have responded very positively to this government," he said. "People understand that this has been done democratically. It has been an action taken on the legal basis of the constitution of the country, so people have taken it very positively."
